Extract PDF Pages: what this tool does

Create a new PDF containing only selected pages from a larger document. Extraction is useful when you need a few pages without changing or redistributing the entire source file.

How it works

  1. 01

Upload a PDF — the total page count is shown to help you reference the right numbers.

  2. 02

Type in which page numbers to keep, using commas and ranges (like 3,7-9) for multiple pages.

  3. 03

Download a new PDF containing just those pages, combined into a single file in the order you specified.

When this tool is useful

  • Sending only pages 4–8 from a report.
  • Saving a particular chapter as its own PDF.
  • Submitting selected pages to an online form.

What to know before you use this tool

Extracting pages creates a new PDF containing only the pages you select. It is useful when a long report contains a smaller section that another person actually needs.

Good use cases

  • Sharing a selected chapter or range
  • Creating a focused application attachment
  • Reducing unnecessary information in a shared copy

A sensible workflow

  1. Identify the source page numbers carefully.
  2. Use a continuous range when the relevant section is consecutive.
  3. Open the extracted PDF and verify its first page, last page, and important tables or signatures.

Things worth checking

  • Printed page numbers do not always match PDF page indexes.
  • Extraction creates a new file; it does not delete pages from the original.
  • Keep the source document so you can create another selection later.

Tips for better results

  • Use page numbers carefully, especially with documents that contain covers or inserts.
  • Preview the extracted document before sharing it.
  • Use Split PDF instead when you want the whole document divided into multiple files.

What to expect

Extraction copies selected pages into a new PDF; it does not automatically rewrite or edit the content inside those pages.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between this and Split PDF?

Extract pulls a specific range into one new combined file — Split instead breaks every single page into its own separate file. Use Extract when you want a subset together, Split when you want each page independent.

Does extracting affect page quality?

No — pages are copied as-is into the new file, with no re-rendering or recompression.

Can I extract the same page more than once?

Entering a page number twice won't duplicate it in the output — each unique page number is only included once, in its original position relative to the other selected pages.

Common mistakes to avoid

Using the wrong page range syntax

Getting the comma-and-dash range syntax wrong (like typing a range backwards, e.g. 12-9 instead of 9-12) is the most common reason an extraction doesn't include the expected pages. Double-check the page count shown after upload before typing the range.

Extracting when splitting was actually the goal

If you want every page as its own separate file (not a specific subset combined together), that's splitting, not extraction — using the wrong one produces either too many files or one file with the wrong pages.

Not verifying page order after extraction

When pages are listed out of numerical order in the range (e.g. '9,3,7'), the extracted file follows that same order, not the original document order — useful when intentional, confusing when it's a typo.
