Image Dimensions for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn

Every platform wants a slightly different shape, and uploading the wrong one usually means an automatic crop that cuts off exactly the part of the photo you cared about. Here are the dimensions that generally work well as of this writing — platforms do update these from time to time, so treat this as a solid starting point and confirm on the platform's own help page if precision really matters for a specific campaign.

Instagram

  • Feed post (portrait, most space in the app): 1080×1350px
  • Feed post (square): 1080×1080px
  • Story or Reel: 1080×1920px

Facebook

  • Shared photo: 1200×630px
  • Cover photo: 820×312px
  • Profile photo: 720×720px (displays as a circle, so keep the subject centered)

LinkedIn

  • Profile photo: 400×400px
  • Cover banner: 1584×396px
  • Shared post image: 1200×627px

If you only remember one rule

Square (1:1) and portrait-ish (4:5) images are the safest bets across almost every platform — they crop predictably and rarely lose the subject. Extremely wide or extremely tall images are the ones that get cropped unpredictably.

Resizing without stretching the photo

Changing width and height independently distorts faces and objects. Our Resize Image tool keeps the aspect ratio locked by default, and if the source photo's proportions don't match the target at all, crop it to the right shape first with Crop Image — see our image cropping guide for the basics — then resize the cropped result to the exact pixel dimensions above.
