How to Delete Pages from a PDF

Scanned documents pick up extra pages more often than you'd think — a blank page fed through by accident, a duplicate of the same page scanned twice, a cover sheet that doesn't need to be in the final file. Deleting specific pages cleans this up without having to rebuild the whole document.

How to specify which pages to remove

A good delete-pages tool lets you type page numbers directly rather than clicking through a page-by-page interface — commas for individual pages, dashes for ranges. For example, "2,7,10-12" removes page 2, page 7, and pages 10 through 12 in a single pass.

What happens to the page numbers after deleting

Once pages are removed, everything after them shifts up to fill the gap — the same way removing a physical page from a printed stack would. If you're deleting multiple pages in one go, reference the page numbers from the original document, not a number you expect after earlier deletions.

How to do it

  1. Upload the PDF — the total page count is shown for reference.
  2. Type the page numbers to remove, using commas and ranges as needed.
  3. Download the edited file with those pages gone and everything else intact.

Our Delete PDF Pages tool handles this entirely in your browser — no page limit, no re-upload needed if you want to remove more afterward.

Common reasons to delete pages

Blank pages, duplicate scans, outdated attachments, internal notes, and accidental cover pages are common reasons to clean a PDF before sharing it. Removing them can make the final document shorter and easier to review.

Review before you delete

Page thumbnails can look similar, especially in scanned documents. If the document matters, compare the pages carefully and keep the original file as a backup.

Delete versus extract

If you want to keep most of a document and remove a few pages, deletion is convenient. If you only need a small subset of pages, extraction can be clearer because you explicitly select what belongs in the new file.

After deletion

Open the output and confirm that the remaining pages are in the expected order. Also check that references such as “see page 12” still make sense if the document contains internal page references.
