How to Combine Multiple Scanned Documents into One PDF
Applications and submissions rarely ask for five separate files — they ask for "one PDF containing everything." If you scanned each page or document separately with a phone camera app, you likely have either several small PDFs or several photos, and need to get them into a single ordered document.
Check your starting point first
If your scanning app already saved each document as its own PDF, you can merge them directly. If instead you have plain photos of each page, convert them to PDF pages first with Image to PDF — see our guide to turning photos into a PDF — before merging anything.
Get the order right before merging
Rename or reorder the individual files so they sort in the exact sequence you want the final document to read in — cover page or form first, then supporting documents, in whatever order the recipient actually expects. It's much easier to fix the order now than to reopen a merged file and re-sort it later.
Merge them
Upload the files, in order, to our Merge PDF tool. It combines them into a single document locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server in the process. See our full merging guide for tips on handling mixed page sizes and orientations.
Compress if the result is too large
Several phone scans merged together can add up quickly, especially at full camera resolution. If the combined PDF is too big for an email attachment or upload form, run it through Compress PDF with a specific target size — our guide to compressing a PDF for email walks through choosing a sensible target.
